Shells, or “Conchiglie” (the Italian word for “sea shells”) are medium-sized pasta in the form of conch shells with a ridged interior and smooth exterior. This traditional pasta pairs beautifully with almost all manner of sauces, is delicious in casseroles and a wonderful ingredient for cold pasta salads. At Misko, we have been making traditional Italian-style pasta in Greece since 1927. Misko Shells have just the right surface area to absorb all of the goodness of whatever sauce you can dream of. With a whimsical shape, evoking the sea, our shells are delicious with classic marinara, Bolognese, pesto, alla vodka or alla carbonara sauces. For a delicious baked preparation with our Misko Shells, sauté garlic, diced onions and spinach in olive oil. Add not fully cooked Misko Shells to the mixture along with ricotta cheese and chopped basil and top with grated parmesan cheese. Misko Shells are wonderful for an exotic mac and cheese with peas. Add truffle oil to the cheesy mixture, and top with crispy bacon or lobster and seasoned breadcrumbs or panko. Misko Shells are delicious in an almost endless array of cold or room temperature salads. For the bright taste of summer, serve al dente with tomato, mozzarella, basil and extra virgin olive oil. For a Mediterranean-inspired warm or room temperature pasta salad, serve Misko Shells with olive oil, canned tuna, cannellini beans, sundried tomatoes, oregano, basil and a squeeze of lemon. Once you start working with our Conchiglie, your culinary imagination will be inspired.
